Week 5-Working with Flash MX timeline

Throughout week 5 we continued working with Flash in more depth, using the timeline and learning all the different types of keyframes i.e

- Blank keyframes, no artwork on the Stage at that frame

- Clear Keyframes, erases the keyframe from the Timeline and removes all content from the stage

- And how to remove keyframes, simply select insert>Remove Frames

We then began to come to terms with frame by frame animations using texts to form a words framing the letters one by one. this enabled me to possibly use it for the final group presentation of domestic violence. Moving on to another key element used in Flash is Motion Tweening. This was the last area covered was motion tweening, the main function for tweening is to establish a start a starting and ending frame for an animation. I put this into practice by creating a square shaped animation and created it as a keyframe on frame 15. And moved the same square drawing onto the end of the stage. As a result when later previewing the image the square moves due the transition within the timeline.

Group Update: We managed to hand in our group proposal here is a copy of it below.

1st Submission of Introduction to Digital Media animation project
Company name - Flash Productions
Movie type - Stop motion movie/animation
Puppets, people or objects – People and objects will be used to construct this narrative.
The concept – Domestic violence
The theme – cartoon villains and damsels in distress; using masks to represent the feelings, creating hopefully a fairly thought provoking animation.
The reason for incorporating disguises - The emotions of the characters are shown through a non conventional way.
Target audience – Ranging from teenagers to adults (This type of abuse statistically seems to be more common with adults). In the animation age will not be a focal point when portraying the message because of the fact that literally anyone of any age can be at the receiving end of such abuse.
1. A couple looking at each other (focus on each face; zoomed in shots) Prior to a dispute that escalates in to something unexpected.
2. Male – His facial expression dramatically changing
3. A shot of his fist; gradual zooming in and then a ‘Bang’ in a bubble
4. Then shots of the females face after impact
5. Focus on how the impact affected her and where she ends up; hand on her face where she was hit and her on the floor. The feel and mood of the caption should speak for itself, in terms of being able to express a particular emotion.
6. Newspaper cut outs – spelling out the message word by word/letter by letter – this is so the movie does not come across as giving importance to domestic violence.
7. Point/message/aim – building awareness concerning a fairly controversial issue many people are faced with, and may be faced with
8. Closing sequence after the issue of domestic violence has been addressed – company name

This creates a relationship between the movie maker and the targeted audience. The movie will bring attention to a hidden unfortunate type of common abuse. It should effectively create a link between those who are affected or are aware of someone who is affected by domestic violence. When a general awareness is circulated in a type of media like this it usually gets some sort of recognition depending on the ways in which it is structured, made, and created.
Using irony to portray such a serious message is also very important in this stop motion movie. Such an important amount of information has to be delivered perfectly in a short space of time. A short sharp message highlights the concept while not dragging on so the audience do not get bored and lose interest.

1. Role participants are playing: -
· 1) Abuser – costume/makeup/theme – Masks to play a theme; the joker from batman
· 2) Abused – costume/makeup/theme – A sad animated character or no mask; no mask would include dramatic effect exaggerated makeup to really reinforce the abuse and bringing attention to the extremity of it through the victim.

2. The programmes and effects that we plan to incorporate in to the stop motion animation: -
MX Flash is the software we will mainly be using – To primarily create and put the movie together
· Ms Vector – Using vector graphics enables a picture to be scaled up or down without it being pixelated, therefore it would be ideal for editing images used in this stop motion
· Layering – A type of formatting that we may use
· Tweening –Plays a part in perfecting the animation
